Say It With Clay

The past two days I spent in the studio. On Monday we had four girls come in in the morning. It was fun when two of the girls wanted to go on the wheel. It was another really fun time. I really enjoy teaching the kids. They are so excited to learn all about clay and the process of wheel throwing. When their pieces are made you can see how excited they are to have something they can use.
Monday morning both the girls on the wheels names were Piper so it was interesting to try to tell one what to do while the other would think I was talking to them. One of them had worked on the wheel before but the other hadn’t. I always enjoy trying to find new ways to teach them how to throw. Each kid is a little different and it is a lot harder for them because they only have a little amount of time to learn and there hands and arms are a lot smaller so it makes it hard to steady the pot.
In the afternoon we had 4 girls in and they were awesome! I think it was the easiest class we ever had. All of them wanted to go on the wheel and a lot of their pieces turned out really good. For a lot of them I would center the clay for them just because that is one of the harder stages of wheel throwing and I really wanted their pieces to turn out nice. Its also one of the more boring stages of wheel throwing but if you don’t do it correctly than the piece will wobble and its really hard to complete the other steps.
On Tuesday, in the morning we only had three girls in so it was pretty good. One of the girls was special needs. It was a nice experience for me to be able to talk and help her with the clay. It just helped give me an inside for what it would be like to go into the therapy field.

In the afternoon, we had four kids, three girls and one boy. One of the girls is also special needs, but its still is different. I always find it interesting how the kids working with clay can help give you an inside to whats going on in their mind and how they think. Each child thinks differently and you are able to see that by the way they create and what they create.
