Bok Building

My fellowship was in the most incredible spot, the Bok building.  It's an old technical high school which had a mechanic shop, hair salon, bakery and much more. That later closed for certain reasons and was bought to be rented out to many different kinds of artists. As some know there is a bar on top of the building that has become very popular. Working at Remark I helped make the tip jars for the bar which was cool to go see when attending there on a weekend. The building is now filled with weavers, boxing gyms, a bakery to a hair salon. it goes on. I still keep finding out about other business in the building which amazes me like a tattoo shop even! Remark is located in the basement and is well known through the building of course, it's a big friendly community.

    Haha I work front desk at the Bok Building! We've spoke a number of times, and you always seemed pretty pumped about what you were doing. Bok is definitely a community with positive, growing energy. I'm excited to see how it integrates into the greater community of South Philly.

For my first shoot since starting this fellowship I have to say this was possibly an once in a lifetime opportunity and I was more than thrilled to be on set. Week 3 Art Restoration with Kat and Megan

Week 3 The UArts alumnus I’m working for is Megan Becker, who pursued the same internship program I’m part of when she was an Illustration student at the university. She has been the one handing me an airbrush and letting me (tentatively) try my hand at stain remediation for water damaged pieces. Megan and I are a good alum-student match because of our shared interest in illustration, and quieter introverted nature. Although Megan’s and my art is very different, we share an understanding for visual meaning and narrative.  The weeks at ART are fairly reliable work-load wise, but on Wednesdays we get to do something a little different. Megan teaches art classes for young students directly after work on Wednesday, so she takes me with her to where her classes are. Of course, I can’t roam around aimlessly while she works, so I take her car to Dunkin Donuts and sit outside, sipping a black coffee and reading The Sandman, volume 5. Introduction

Yo!!!!!! My name is Malik Murray, I am a rising junior photography major. I am more than excited to be working under Uarts Alumni Lou Caltabniano and John Pushnick. I started actually a little before the school year ended. So far it has been fun and a great learning experience. I'll be getting into detail on some of the shoots I have worked on so far with the guys in later post but so far I have traveled to NJ, Baltimore, and of course Philly for some really dope stuff.
